 Poultry feeds formulation is the greatest way of reducing the cost of rearing chicken. Commercial feeds are often too expensive. Formulated feeds are good for your chicken because they contain the right ingredients and are well balanced. Some Commercial feeds are of poor quality and may cause stunted growth in your birds. That is why it is very essential for every poultry farming to make his own feeds. The following is a guideline for formulation of 100 kilograms of chick mash.


Ingredients

1. 45 kilograms of maize meal.


2. 34 kilograms of soya meal.


3. 13.2 kilograms of wheat offal.


4. 3 kilograms of bone meal.


5. 4.2 kilograms of oyster shell.


6.100 grams of lysine.


7. 100 grams of methionine.


8. 250 grams of vitamin premix.


9. 250 grams of salt.


Chick should have about 18 to 20 percent crude protein. This will ensure faster growth of chicks within a short time.


Formulation

All the above ingredients should be mixed and blended well. You will have to mix as you add each of the ingredients gradually. The feeds will be ready to be given to chicks after thorough mixing. Ensure to always keep chicken feeds in a safe place away from pathogen causing infections.
